Woe to the painting that needs a verbal interpretation

Catalogue for the exhibition of the same name by Eva Švankmajerová, which took place at the DOX Centre for Contemporary Art.

It focuses on various themes and aspects of Eva Švankmajerová's work, such as corporality, emancipation, dialogue with art classics, and more. It includes reproductions of paintings, drawings, objects, ceramics, as well as painted furniture, which showcase the breadth and artistic openness of her work. The works are accompanied by the artist's personal commentaries on her own work.

The catalogue includes essays by Jan Švankmajer and curator Anna Pravdová, which place the works in a broader cultural and artistic context or address the characteristics of her personality. The graphic design of the catalogue was handled by Petr Hrůza.

The catalogue is a Czech-English edition.
