Veronika Hrubá
Veronika Hrubá, née Švankmajerová, was born on May 19, 1963. She studied at the Secondary School of Ceramics in Bechyně and subsequently at Palacký University Olomouc – Department of Art Education at the Faculty of Education. Her primary medium of expression is ceramics. She primarily creates sculptures, objects, home accessories (lamps in the shape of balloons and airships, mirrors, secretaries, dressing tables with mirrors and drawers, etc.), and modeled ceramics with figural and zoomorphic motifs.
Her work also extends to film, as she collaborated on several films by Jan Švankmajer. Specifically, on the films Another Kind of Love (1988), the feature film Lunacy (2005), Surviving Life (2010), and Insect (2018). She won a Czech Lion award for the costumes for Lunacy and a Slnko v sieti award for the costumes for Surviving Life.
Veronika Hrubá also has a ceramic studio with utility ceramics, which she runs with her husband.
