Václav Švankmajer

Václav Švankmajer was born on October 17, 1975, in Prague. He studied at the Secondary School of Applied Arts in Prague, specializing in promotional exhibitions. This was followed by studies at FAMU, during which he created films such as R.Y.B.A. 073 (1998) and Test (1999), but most notably, he made his mark with the distinctive animated film Světlonoš (2005). His films have received countless awards at film festivals both in the Czech Republic and abroad.

Like his parents Jan and Eva Švankmajer, he is involved in many artistic fields. His artistic activities are primarily based on painting, drawing, graphics, and welded sculpture.

Since 2005, he has collaborated with the group of Czechoslovak surrealists. His literary work includes the poetry collection Dýka Štěstí, published in 2013. He also collaborated on several films by Jan Švankmajer and received a Czech Lion award for set design for the film Insects.

He currently lives and works in Prague.
