A major joint exhibition of the works of Jan and Eva Švankmajer took place at the Gallery of the Central Bohemian Region in Kutná Hora from March 3 to August 4, 2024.

The exhibition, held in the year of Jan Švankmajer's 90th birthday, presents all creative areas that this world-renowned surrealist has explored (collages, graphics, objects, book illustrations, mediumistic drawings, tactile experiments, collecting, and, of course, film). The central theme of the project is the so-called "disegno interno" or "internal arrangement," which refers to the artist's imaginative understanding of the essence of a given subject. This principle, in Švankmajer's conception, connects Rudolfine Mannerism and the surrealist "internal model." An important part of the exhibition will also be the presentation of the painting work of the artist's wife, Eva Švankmajerová (1940–2005), which still maintains a distinctive dialogue with Jan Švankmajer's work. The rich accompanying program is dedicated to both key and less expected themes that Švankmajer's extraordinary imagination has worked with and continues to work with.
